The complex essential oil is distilled from the leaves and used for flavouring and aromatherapy. The whole leaf is also used as a bushfood spice and herb-tea ingredient. It is used like a bay-leaf in savory cooking, and is also used in confectionery and teas. It has a fruity-lemon flavor, with a rosemary-like edge. Popularity: 1 Blueberry - Misty
The Misty is a true enigma, in that where it grows vigorously, such as on the red kraznozem soils of Northern NSW, it is very profitable and popular, yet on other soils it has often not grown well and is not a variety of popular choice. To produce high quality, early fruit, Misty is best grown under the evergreen system with attention being paid to nutrition and leaf diseases in order to keep the older leaves. It is an early fruiting variety, with light blue, medium to large fruit of excellent flavour.
Popularity: 1 Pomegranate - Elcite
Large yellow skinned variety of Spanish origin, soft seeds. Not as attractive as the Wonderful but has a pleasant sweet flavour. The red juice surrounding the seed is highly prized for its antioxidant properties.
