Most parts of the tree are used as medicine by traditional custodians. It is a tall slender tree to 10m with creamy flower spikes in early summer. Known for its olive-sized fruit which ripens in autumn. Traditionally used as a thirst quencher and snack. Widespread over the northern tropical woodlands. It also is used in the seafood industry to improve shelflife of prawns. Fruit also contains oxalic acid so consume in moderation.

Just read that suckers grow around the palm, which bear fruit to, so some people cut down the main tree, because they get so big and just harvest from the suckers; so you wouldn't need to climb it! :)

Keep in pot culture until too large then plant in gound in frost free area - top of the slope if you are in a frost prone area. Fortunately human induced climate change means they are more likely to thrive here in the subtropics now

So far so good in a pot in Brisbane, but we'll see this winter. If it does end up being successful I'm going to have to figure out how to harvest the fruit as I doubt I'll be able to climb it.

Elke, This palm is doing well in the garden and I did bring it in during some cold snaps. I'm surprised they didn't survive for you indoors because my friends have them in their kitchen in Toronto all winter long. They brighten up the room with green.
