Apple Tree Disease (forum)

Hi,
I've got a problem with my apple tree... perhaps a couple of problems actually.
Firstly, some of the new shoots and leaves are covered in a white powder. As far as I can tell, it's probably powdery mildue. If my identification is correct, I can get something to treat it.
Secondly, some of the leaves develop red blotches, which can grow big enought to envelop the whole leaves. Interestingly, there appears to be no direct correlation between leaves being covered in the white powder and turning red: sometimes it's one or the other, sometimes it's both, and; sometimes (perhaps mostly) it's neither. Sometimes the redness can be seen in the stem of the leaf and in cases where multiple leaves from the same twig turn red, you can see redness in the twig.
Any ideas on what causes this redness (or perhaps a confirmation of the powdery mildew diagnosis)?
Thanks heaps,
Jamie

Wierd - it looks like leaf curl almost? Can apples get that? Blister mite, apple scab..?
Maybe treat the powdery mildew and see how it goes (in the absence of any other suggestions..)

Hi,
My apple tree is losing branches. I've searched the web and it may be Crown rot, can someone confirm my assumption? The main branches have deep cracks along the length of the branches. The bark is peeling as well. Then the branch turns dry and dies. Is there anything I can do to save the tree?
thx
Uli
