Baby Paw Paw - going yellow (forum)

Hi everyone... Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have read the other forums on Paw Paws but there weren't enough photos for me to compare my plants problems with those already discussed. So I apologise if this seems repetitive...

I noticed the leaves going yellow a few days ago and thought it was sunburn, so I wasn't too worried. However, leaves on the opposite side (to the sun) are now also going yellowish.

the soil PH is between 7 - 6.5, and I am slowly making it slightly more acidic as the card says they prefer slightly acidic soil. Could alkaline soil be the problem? If so, will it survive the slow transition to acidic?

Anyone have any other thoughts as to what might be the problem...?

P.S I re-potted it two weeks ago.
Cheers

I am a poor pawpaw expert but I thought those leaves are just dieing naturally as the plant grows up like a weed. It drops the leaves etc and the stem gets longer as new leaves form.

Hi Mish,
I see you're growing the paw paw in a pot, probably not a good idea, but if you must, you must.

Believe it or not, I'd give it some dolomite and some Seasol (white bottle), and try not to over water it, paw paws don't like wet feet. I'd probably give it some composted cow manure like Moo Poo, for example, under the mulch as well.

Hi Mish,
It's natural for paw paw to loose their leaves like that. Mine is doing that all the time but as long as you get new growth to replace it then I wouldn't worry about it too much.I'm also growing mine in a large pot and it's curently covered in fruits but they are still small.

Thanks everyone for your responses...

Michael: I can see all new shoots underneath the canopy (very tiny) & I have new growth out the top... so I think you are right. I didn't know that they dropped leaves, my book doesn't really explain how they grow.

Hopefully mine will fruit next season. Its growing very fast, so will probably be putting it in its permanent pot next month... or so.
