Do not worry about the banana its natural , that looks like Musa sumatrana and has that colouration . It does not give fruit as it is a highly illegal decorative species . Just worry about the DPI inspectors and the massive fine .
There are many species with prety flowers and tiny fruits full of seed , and they are not grown as they could harbour all of the deadly diseases that could ruin the massive industry that employes so many here .

Thanks a lot Trikus, we inherited them with our house as a neglected stand of Bananas, so I sent the wife on an errand to the previous owner. He thinks they're Cavandish but not sure as his father inlaw planted them, and mate, this guy is 90 not out so who knows how old they are.
One tree did have a small bunch on it when we bought the house and they looked like Cavandish, just the same, if they are what you say they will be destroyed

Ok , it seems that sometimes some of the 200 types of edible bananas will get red splotches on the foliage , some are even nearly all red [ red dakka ] just cut of some of the older leaves every month or so , [ de-leafing ] keep them mulched and well watered . Ideally they need 20-30 mm of water a week , thats why the grow mainly in the wet tropics . But I grew several types in Childers , and they thrived in the rich red soil . A local business is now supplying many types of exotics , I just bought Java Blue , and Lakkatan ..

Blue Sky Bananas , are working with a local tissue culture lab . They grow on many types and supply growers and nurserys . $20 for a 150mm pot may seem expensive , but once you taste your own home grown ones ... its worth every cent.

The bananas I got from our local nursery are cheaper than sold on the web site ,, Lucky .. remember reading in the Age or Sun [ while living in Melb.] that banana was in the top 10 edible plants grown in backyards in Melb. !! Look out the window of the train on the Frankston line , and you see hundreds . global warming really helps here .

Hi Wayne The banana plant in the picture of yours looks to me very likely to be dwarf cavendish.
if it is dwarf cavendish it will only grow to a bit over 2 meters high and fruit.
I doubt its lady finger as I have ladyfinger growing and the ladyfingers dont have the red markings.
The Varieties I have Growing that have red markings on the foilage are Dwarf cavendish Vellerie and goldfinger.
I have dwarf red dacca growing 5 of them and none of thered dacca have any red on the leaves whatsoever.
