Cherimoya (forum)

I thought you might like to see our cherimoya bearing quite a lot of fruit.
I have been hand pollinating it for a few years now and this is probably one of the best results so far. I really enjoy creating the fruit and eating it, they are out of this world. I use a small paint brush and little bottle, kept in the fridge overnight. It is easy to collect the pollen from the aging flower (male) and insert it into the newly opened flowers (female), and fun to watch the little fruit grow.

Hi Helen. Its a beauty, but as Rich says it looks like a Rollinia. Do the fruits go a yellowy colour when ripe and taste a bit like a gooey lemon sherbert?

Yes that's not a Cherimoya but a great tree anyway. That's also how I pollinate my Cherimoyas, late night pollen hunt then pollinate the female flowers that are open at the time, then fridge it and get the rest of them in the morning.

Peter you can get Cherimoya seeds from ebay easily, a guy in Bolivia has them and some other good stuff listed most of the time

Do the flowers look like a boat propeller?
Here's a pic of a small Rollinia flower.
The leaves certainly look like a Rollinia.
