Theobroma grandiflorum , is a fruit I cannot wait to taste . Seedling tree from 'Botanical Ark' has been in a few months now and should grow well .

Nice one trikus.
I'd love to taste it too!
I had some seeds from Ecuador in early 1990's but it was too cold for them in NNSW.
I thought it was a too cold in winter for them to grow there but I had the seeds and had to give them a go.
Same as for the Cacao seeds I had.
they didn't survive either.

There are a few other species in cultivation around here . Our local DPI guy has a few and pointed out a very large Theobroma bicolor fruit at the Feast of the Senses .
Very tropical , mine will be shaded by large durians eventually.
David Chandlee still has some as well .
He has had a nasty accident recently and will be out of action for a while .

Another local source , I picked this up with some very interesting other stuff just a week before the cyclone .
Amazing furry new flush . The one planted out did not get badly damaged and has similar new growth . Another source has tiny little seedlings [ on was on feebay recently ] must try and get another .. Try and taste some before the next cyclone comes ... better be a little longer than 5 years [ fingers crossed ]

This one is about 40cm's in height and about three years from seed, the seed was from an old soccer friend in brazil. The new leaves are really beautiful.

I have a couple of small capuassu which is the other common name. You need 2 unrelated trees for good pollination.I gave a few away and some T.bicolor as well. There is much variation in quality and these days it is a bit of a wonder fruit in Brazil.

Scott no they are not with nearly all trees coming from one source. A farm that has trees is not getting fruit as they are not outcrossing. I passed some small trees on to them so they could cross pollinate.

ok I stand corrected as I thought all sourced from botanic ark. Mine are an improved commercial Brazilian variety and I had them from several other sources but germination failed.
