Fig Black Genoa? (forum)

If not the fig any other suggestions for a deciduous in the North West Corner?
So we would like a nice edible deciduous tree in the top North West corner of the yard which will throw some shade on the kids main play area for the warmer months. Just outside our boundary and within about 2 metres of this plants home is a very deep stormwater drain.
My question what about a Fig - Black Genoa? The thought of a fig tree in my backyard frightens me somewhat as I have visions of the monstrous trees you see in paddocks around here. I have read that it's not too large though and oh how I do love to eat them. How will it go with the drain, any problems? I read on another thread to restrict the roots with sheet metal in the ground??? How big would you make this box?

Black genoa is not an invasive type of fig - you may see some indigenous figs which tend to become monsters, however the mediterranean types are easily controlled and make a suitable shade tree in suburban areas.
