Question about green/mamey seeds. Are they still able to be planted if the seed coat has split off and the embryo is free? I had a green and a mamey for breakfast and lunch the other day and the mamey seed was fully split and the green partially so. I planted them anywase.

as long as they haven't blackened and aren't overly shriveled, they should be fine.
Most 'coatings' are germination inhibitors anyway and probably should be removed. In some species this is so severe that it makes you wonder how they could ever possibly germinate in the wild--bayberry, or yangmei is one such example. Some species have coevolved with certain animals, and cannot germinate without passing through the intestinal tracts of these.
Cerbera floribunda, commonly referred to as 'cassowary plum' can only be consumed by cassowaries and is literally toxic to everything else.

Hey Mike I think I left it too late to get any black apple seeds this year. They tend to drop in November and there was no sign of them in their usual spot.

Plenty of Black Apple Seeds here, but not yet!
Black Apple fruits later down here. I collected a lot earlier this year right up until May/June that had fallen to the ground and were still germinating.
I also have a small green sapote plant (not seeds) to swap.
Cheers!

Ok, will do. The thing is, the trees are so big and tall you can't reach the fruit. So I have to wait for the fruit to drop. It's no problem though, by the end of Summer the ground is littered with them.

Ok, can do. Looks like I should have collected more as there has been quite a bit of demand for them. May have to go back as there are literally hundreds of the fruit lying on the ground at the moment, many squashed and rotting.

Hi Troy
Looks like I will have to go out for a second round of collecting as quite a few of my friends are wanting some too. Please let me know if they are permitted to be sent to WA and send me your address by email to lintonius at hotmail.com.
Not sure what people are hoping to do with them as I wouldn't bother growing this species for it's fruit - they are hardly edible. It should make good wine though as the fragrance is like a nice drop of red.
