Help identify fruit tree (forum)

Hi,
Apologies for the multiple topic uploads - tried from my phone and it is obviously struggling. Please delete the other posts.
Just wondering if anyone is able to identify this tree/fruit for me? We bought this house a few years ago and this tree was already established in the back yard. It has the following characteristics:
- White blossoms in spring
- Green serrated edge leaves
- Small cherry like fruit (~1cm diameter) that start off green and turn bright red through summer.
Any help would be great!
Cheers

Why don't you crush one to see if it smells like cherry/plum? The seed might help to identify it.

Thanks for all the replies - Nanking Cherry looks a pretty spot on candidate. Certainly gives me enough confidence to try one of the berries now :-)

Dinks I'd really like one one of these. Do you have any runners you can send? I'll pay.

Sternus1 - I have to admit that I wouldn't know where to start with identifying and collecting a runner. If you can talk me through what I'm looking for and how to collect it, I'd be more than happy to send one your way.

well ID'd, I've never come across these before, apparently they're comfortable in hard freezes.
Dinks, I'm keen also, would it be possible to send me some seeds? I have lots of things to trade. They need stratification but apparently they can fruit in the first year.

I'm interested to know what you thought of the fruit taste test?
Don't go to any trouble, if you are eating the fruit, just set the seeds aside, or otherwise throw some ripe fruit into something like a plastic sandwich bag and I'll sort it.
If you could email me at
coastalskylightatbigponddotcom
and I'll give you my home address.
Include your wish list and hopefully I can send something in return.
