Anyone have a a male Kei Apple (Dovyalis cafra) I 'm blessed with 2 females and am anxious to provide them with male company . I can exchange cuttings . Options are two > graft male branch to existing plant or grow from cutting. Sooo does anyone want to swap?

B & T World seeds has them listed pretty cheaply in their catalogue. I checked with AQIS, they are able to be imported into Australia as long as you get the sender to label the package with the species' name. You should get some male plants out of that lot. Good luck.

alan, how can you tell a male from a female? I have what I think is a Kei apple, given to me many years ago. It has never had fruit - I didn't know you needed two. The leaves and long thorns look the same.
Can't take pics at the moment, as I need to buy a new battery charger. Will get onto it soon.

I have access to trees (cuttings, fruits and seeds) that I planted 1991 in a garden close by here.
Alan, I can send cuttings of the male tree or seed or seedlings.
Whatever you want.

Hi Amanda,
Taste is a bit 'apricotty' but without the
depth of flavour, a bit more watery,
also a hint of passionfruit or
something, it's a while since I had some.
The thing most remembered about them is their sourness.
plenty of sour.
They'd make good jam, syrup or cordial.
The trees can bear heaps of fruit even in very dry climates.
