I have had this Nellie Kellie black passionfruit vine for about 4 years now. Never had any fruit at all from it, and it only started to flower last year. The vine has grown all along the fence thru the roof of the shed and has suckers going in all directions. It has been cut down but seems to be immortal. Today I noticed an orange fruit on it. It is very soft and has bright red seeds in the middle. Does any one know what it is ? Or is it edible? It is the size of a Roma tomato.

Unfortunately sometime in the last 4 years the rootstock has overgrown rt he graft and you know have a different and only slightly edible species of passionfruit.
I'm a long time hater of the Nelly Kelly grafted passionfruits, this happens to 95% if them and the other 5% die young due to graft incompatibility. Then you by another... And another... And another. Good business maybe, bad if you want a good passion fruit vine.
My advice is get a black passion fruit from the shop and grow the seeds, you'll get a long lived and productive black passionfruit then.

Spot on Jason, I saw Nelly Kelleys for sale in Mt Gambier Bunnings, the top graft had already died ( there were about 10 of them) and the rootstock was the only thing in the pot. I pointed this out to staff (politely I thought) and was told in no uncetain terms they did not have time to remove them. I wondered how many innocents paid for and took home a useless invasive rootstock.

Same here, and the Bunnings nursery staff are qualified Horticulturalists, you'd think they'd know better.
