I have a pomegranate cutting in a small pot as a gift from a friend. told to keep the pot moist. some weeks later i notice the new leaf growth on one part of the plant only are curling as in the pic. a year or two ago i had a seemingly similar thing on a passion fruit vine. is this a virus or a sign of stress?

Do the leaves have silvery trails in them? The curling looks like what happens to young leaves that have leaf miner. I know leaf miner can also attack pomegranate. I am not sure however if pomegranate can get leaf curl (the virus) as do peaches or nectarines. Do a search re diseases for pomegranates which should answer it for you. I don't think it is the watering.

insect pest, not virus. possibly thrips. your watering and nutrition looks good. i would remove all affected leaves and spray new growth as it comes out with your weapon of choice

thanks for the feedback. i have put the leaves under the microscope and no signs of a miner or indeed any other insect. giving it a general spray regardless.

Sometimes this happens when the watering is uneven i.e. if you always water on one side of the plant and the other side gets a lot of sun.

I bought 5 pomegranates from Daleys a few months ago and they have what looks like they have the same thing. No signs of any insects. Should I spray them?

I think its thrips. They are small so you usually don't see them, just the damage.
