Hi Fruitist, do you remember asking me to find out about a seedless loquat while I was in Japan last year? The Japanese people I had looking for it have not been able to source any however if you google seedless loquat a lot of info comes up. As far as I can tell they get their seedless fruit by spraying the flowering tree with gibberellic acid 100 ppm, so it,s not actually a cultivar, just something manipulated by humans during the growth cycle.

Hey Jantina n Chris - must admit the seedless thing is getting a bit out of hand these days...I grew some divine organic watermelons last year and took them to primary school for "crunch n sip" and the kids wouldn't eat my melon cos' it had seeds in it!!
We used to have the best fun as kids - squirting the seeds at each other...yet another casualty of modern life perhaps..?

All the more reason to keep growing those melons and other foods Amanda, in 5 weeks, 5 months, 5 years or more somebody may just decide to have a go at growing some food because they remember you bringing those melons to school. Some seeds (ideas) take a long time to germinate.

Sad hey Julie...but even my husband is anti-seeds - now I know where she gets it from!? ;-)
Had some loquats off a tree in an empty block the other day - not great fruit but many of the seeds were like those one's they call "chicken tongues" in lychees....
Could have just been a pollination or nutritional issue tho...

We have a great 'cling seed' grape vine here with an amazing jaboticaba taste. It is a bit of a problem now as our 2 year old wants to eat them but the seed really adheres to the flesh. Luckily the skins alone have more flavour than store bought grapes, so we give him the skin. Some of the seedless ones are not too bad - good Midnight Beauties are pretty good. They all explode on the vine here though :(
I get seedless loquats on my Champagne tree in a small off-season crop. Its probably abnormal - right now it doesnt know when to crop so gives three small crops a year.
