What's happening with my Cape Chestnut tree? (forum)

Over the past six weeks or so my mature Cape Chestnut tree has been releasing a "mist" of sticky sap onto everything below. The tree is about 10 metres tall and has been behaving normally otherwise over the past season. I have lived in the house for 7 years and I have never noticed it doing this before. Can anyone enlighten me?

The sticky sap is coming from the bums of aphids, they filter out suagrs etc and then release the excess water out.

So Jimmy...
If it's aphids, what do I do? Are they harming the tree or just giving me the irrits? I am truly tired of the sticky stuff.

This is 1 photo of my tree. I think there is only 1 other in Wodonga. It took 16 YEARS to flower and that was ONLY because I noticed hubby throwing Nitrogen lawn food around it at the start of Spring to green the lawn, and I told him to stop- I then got my reward. It`s realy showing off this year for me with so many flowers. What a glorious, glorious tree. My favourite. Mine gets no diseases. It drops the leaves at the end of Winter and then new leaves start immediately to grow. I do not feed it. It is 20 years old now. The first year it was so wonderful to see 5 bud bunches.NO LAWN FOOD around it :)

Photo 2 close up. This tree needs a close viewing to really appreciate all the beautiful, orchid-like details of the flowers. Enjoy !

Hi,
I have sap balls on one of my Cape Chestnut trees suddenly. see pics. Only this tree out of three has never done very well its always slight droopy, no matter what. Not sure what to do cause I don't want my other trees to become infected. There are no aphids on the tree that I can see, but something is chewing a few of the leaves. Might be moths?
Should I do anything??

Hi Bibi,
I read that its taken 16 years for your tree to flower. I have a few Cape Chestnut trees that are about 10 years old now (7 yrs in a pot and 3-4yrs in the ground) if you see the pics attached of when they were planted and now. But none of them have ever flowered. We have fed them, babied them and so have tripled in size since planted and look really healthy but just won't flower. You say NO lawn food or nitrogen?? Anything else??
We've used Seasol, slow release, trace element, manure, mulch and still nothing.. I don't know what else to do.. any help would be most appreciated please??
