notsosqueezy starts with ... Hi I have two cherry trees (royal lee and royal Minnie) both from bareroot(planted June 2023); about 4 months after planting one tree(Minnie)had some sort of bite/damage and sap started seeping out of the wound. After cleaning the wound and treating it very nicely a new growth has started again. My issue at the moment is that the Royal Lee has gone really strongly and needs a prune as it has grown to over 2 metres; do I do it now or wait until all the leaves drop off? What do I do with the Royal Minnie? Should I give it a light prune as well to promote new growth? See pictures attached. I live in Brisbane inner Southside. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edward3 says... Usually pruning is done at the end of winter, but summer pruning has its own advantages. A good guide is on this link https://orchardpeople.com/when-to-prune-fruit-trees/ . | About the Author Edward3 CARLINGFORD,2118,NSW 9th March 2024 5:14pm #UserID: 1655 Posts: 172 View All Edward3's Edible Fruit Trees |

notsosqueezy says... Thanks for the link edward3... I think I need to do some pruning now as the branches are reaching for the heavens and is seems a waste to wait for winter where they could another half metre taller. I have noticed a few fruit stems(?) on both trees. I'm in Brisbane so here's hoping for a cooler winter. I see you are from Carlingford, I used to live in Beecroft opposite the golf course a few years ago. | About the Author notsosqueezy MOOROOKA,4105,QLD 11th March 2024 2:08pm #UserID: 40551 Posts: 2 View All notsosqueezy's Edible Fruit Trees |
