Question: The first flower of the year in Spring is always a female flower but no male flowers to pollinate it.  All the other flowers that come a few days later are male flowers so I never get any fruit as by that stage my one female flower has died.   Is there anything I can do to increase the female to male flower ratio come next Spring?

Fast grower, the only problem I've had is with scale.
Stephen9 says... [1002 days 8hrs ago]
Hi mate - if you have spare scion woods, can you pls let me know so I can try grafting to my white sapote seedling tree? I am happy to pay for them and perhaps go for a drive down to the South Coast one weekend to collect
Chad1 says... [877 days 7hrs ago]
Sorry I just saw your comment. If you still need some let me know and forget about paying
Stephen9 says... [718 days 11hrs ago]
Hi Chad1, sorry I don't use this Daley forum website often and just came across your response. Thanks mate for the offer, but it is not urgent and I will try to source some other varieties white sapote scions to graft onto my seedling tree project sometime in the near future. Same, we are based in the same state NSW and so if you are after a particular scion(s) I may have spare, let me know and I can try to assist

Small Leaf Tamarind 8/10

Sayadr's Edible Fruits
Update: 1000 days 10hrs

Comments: - Attractive endangered native fruiting tree.  Took a few years to become established with frost protection and regular watering.  Survived years of harsh drought with minimal watering.  First time it has fruited since planting about 7 years ago. Appears to be a substantial amount of fruit on the tree.  Fruit is attractive but very tart, consisting mostly of a large seed and thin flesh.

Mango - Alphonso (Grafted)

SN1's Edible Fruits
Update: 1388 days 12hrs

Comments: -

Just bought this grafted plant from daleys nursery on the 25th May 2018. Havent planted in the ground yet.

Planted in the ground, started growing really well then the 2018 winter killed it. I should have waited till winter passed before planting it in the ground :-( .

Growing: In a Pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Question: Just noticed one of the leaves drying out. Why is this happening?

Mango grow really slow in cold and frosty condition.. it needs full sun and lots of water in summer, it would grow well in summer, sometimes leaves drying out from bottom of plant but not top of the tree where new growth is shooting.. It might need big pot or permanent soil...
SN1 says... [2330 days 15hrs ago]
Thank you Anand. yeah it was only those couple of leaves that dried out, rest were okay and I have planted them in the garden in their permanent place last week. Fingers crossed they survive the winter.
sandy31 says... [2300 days 11hrs ago]
i bought at same time as you, but i am going to wait till oct as its when the soil temp will start to rise, also winter where i live in west syd is quite frosty. I am preparing ahole 2 feet waide by 2 feet deep for it and adding lot of organic matter.
Mal0071 says... [2293 days 22hrs ago]
My Alphonso has been in ground for about 3 years and has survived Sydney winters. Got 2 fruits second year but the possums got to them before I could. No flowers last summer.

Phalsa 6/10

SHFarmer's Edible Fruits
Update: 1436 days 21hrs

Planted: 2020

Height 40 Centimetres

Growing: In a Pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Water Given in: Spring

Spring

Pollination: No

Fertiliser or Organics Used: Rose

Pest Control:

None used as there are no sign of leaves being chewed or damaged by pests.

Question:

Two Phalsa plants from Daleys (Pot: 0.75L; Height: 30-40cm) were planted in Mar-2020. One in a large pot and another in a big raised bed. Both lost all leaves by Jun but the leaves started to come back in Sep.

The Phalsa in the pot had three or four new 30-40 cm long branches with plenty of healthy leaves on all branches (old and new) but the plant in the ground had no new branches, dried and dead old branches and only few tiny leaves near the soil line.

In Oct, fearing its death, I transplanted the second Phalsa (in raised bed) back into a pot. Today (29-Nov-20) It is still alive but with only a few new tiny leaves.

Could it be due to white curly grubs I have in my raised bed?

Any suggestion will be welcomed.

Lemon - Meyer (Grafted) 10/10

Kutz's Edible Fruits
Update: 1473 days 10hrs

Comments: -

I'm looking forward to testing the fruits reputed sweetness in lemon cheesecakes, a few salad dressings and maybe trying my hand at home made lemon butter.

It's a beautiful looking little tree with bright green shiny leaves. As soon as I received from Daleys I transplanted into a 35 litre self watering planter with citrus potting mix. Once the weather got cold I kept the tree inside but estimate it was only getting 4.5-5 hours of filtered sunlight. It didn't grow a single bit, but it didn't die either. Temperature was consistently above 12 degrees Celsius.

Once the weather warmed, I popped the tree onto the balcony where it receives about 6 hours of sunlight a day and remains sheltered from wind and frost. Watered with banana peel water and placed some coir on top, got lots of new light green baby leaves.

It then had pink and white buds that burst open into lovely smelling flowers. Pollinated by hand using a cotton bud. 23 little baby lemons have now appeared as the flowers wilted away. I will likely need to remove quite a few as the tree is very young and only measuring 44cm to the top of the trunk and 92cm to the highest branch. It's unlikely to be able to hold more than 2-3 lemons per branch right now.

After 7 months I repotted into the same pot adding more well draining soil and giving it a root trim. Very pleased with this tree so far.

Pruning hasn't been attempted yet, but probably after fruiting.

When I Fertilise: Spring

Pest Control: Vinegar  soap traps, Hortico insect killer for citrus (no good) Multicrop Eco Pest Oil (no good) chilli powder on the soil - weirdly super efficient - never seen anything like it.
