Dwarf Mulberry - Black 10/10Staceyjoans's Edible FruitsUpdate: 857 days 17hrs Comments: - 10/10 for rapid growth and surviving my nice and nephews... Planted this in September 2020 as a tiny Bunnings plant and by the start of Winter 2021, its about 7 foot tall! looking forward to it fruiting. 10.08.2022: This tree fruited 3 times in its first season. The 1st fruit was dissapointing as so tiny and I was contemplating taking it out. Im glad I waited as it fruited 2 more times and the berries were large and luscious. Now sitting pretty at around 12 feet. Beautiful uniform shape and its autumn leaves provide great garden mulch - VERY worthwhile tree for small gardens. Grumichama - Orange (Seedling)Nossojardim's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1690 days 22hrs Comments: - Very ornamental glossy leaves. Cold tolerance is better than the Black Grumichama. Growing in Melbourne lost 50% of leaves outside in first year, compared to the Black Grumichama which completely defoliated (but recovered by Summer). Not expecting it to fruit anytime soon, but is a fairly vigorous grower. Drumstick Tree ( Moringa ) (Seedling) 10/10JenJen's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1716 days 17hrs Comments: - Have always loved eating this as a curry, absolutely delicious! Planted: 2020 Height 30 Centimetres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Summer After FruitingPollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Yet to fertilise. Pest Control: I used the baking soda and washing liquid method to get rid of a fungus it had. Worked a treat. Question: I have yet to really water it. It is quite happy in the ground but I have found it does not like too much water. So I only water it if it has been a very hot day in the 30's. Was this review helpful? Mango - Bowen Seedling (Seedling) 7/10Fruitsnflowers1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1737 days 13hrs Comments: - Mangoes are one of my favourite fruits. Love tropical plants and growing them in Melbourne is a challenge but also quite rewarding when it's successful. I had blossoms and tiny fruits on my mango tree in the second and third year but all the fruits fell. [2423 days 16hrs ago]Hi Inoxa1 Your feijoa won't be in a hurry to grow now where the season is already changing and the growing times is almost over except in the tropics. Expect a lot of growth during spring onwards. I have 3 feijoas bought last spring and they have all more than doubled their sizes. Be patient and take good care of it and you will be rewarded accordingly. Happy gardening :-)Innoxa1 says... Banana - Lady Finger (Cutting) 9/10Mindy1's Edible FruitsUpdate: 1861 days 12hrs Comments: - UPDATE NOVEMBER 2019 All survived Winter, with some minor leaf loss. Trunks still look healthy. Blue Java and Lady Fingers doing the best so far. Looking forward to the warmer weather to see if I get any banana flowers this year. Still using pea straw, sugar cane, compost and manure every couple of weeks. UPDATE APRIL 2019 Picture on left is bananas in August 2018. Lady Finger variety is upper left. Picture on right is bananas in March 2019. They've grown particularly well. I have 5 different varieties - Lady Finger (upper left), Blue Java (upper right and doing exceptionally well), DPM25 (middle right), Dwarf Red Dacca (lower left) and Dwarf Cavendish (lower right). Have had numerous suckers from Cavendish, Lady Finger has one good, solid sucker, Blue Java yet to sucker (and the best grower) and Red Dacca just suckering now. Hopefully they survive Winter again - will need cover if it's a cold one. INITIAL Always wanted to try growing bananas, however living almost in the Macedon Ranges just north of Melbourne I thought would make it impossible. Decided didn't care - my gardening is trial and error, not what people tell me will work. So far, has not only survived a few light frosts, but growing well - in ground with three other banana varieties & worked a heap of compost, sheep manure, dynamic lifter and potash into the soil before planting. I use an automatic watering system so they get watered and misted every day (for a minute, mind you, nothing over the top). Will see how they survive the Winter as it's meant to be one of the coldest ahead. Wish me luck! Planted: 2018 Height 2.1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Spring SpringPollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Dynamic Lifter, Chicken Manure, Compost, Worm Tea, Seasol, lucerne/pea mulch When I Fertilise: Winter and Spring Pest Control: Haven't really had any pests aside from blackbirds digging up around the base.
