Very attractive slow growing tree, with dark green leathery leaves. Native to wet forests of Central America.Oval shaped fruits are produced in summer reaching up to 2cm. The white pulp has a pleasant subacid aromatic flavour, with a similar flavour to the Achacha.Very ornamental making an excellent display potted plant. While the tree may not produce fruit in colder regions, the leaves are quite cold hardy and can tolerate winter conditions. May require protection from frosts when young. Acerola - Florida Sweet

This bright red cherry like fruit has varying tastes during different stages as it ripens. When fully ripe the fruit is juicy and aromatic with its acid content giving it a sweet acid apple-like flavour. The tree can produce a number or crops each year, making for quite a long harvest season. Our selection is called the acerola Florida Sweet Cherry and is a pleasant eating variety that is not too sour. The acerola is well suited to pot culture where it can be kept to a smaller size. It could also be grown this way in cooler climates where it can be moved to a warmer position in the winter. A word of warning the foliage of the plant is covered in tiny irritating stinging hairs that can produce an allergic reaction. When pruning your trees wear a long sleeved shirt and a pair of gloves.

The plant is well established, beautifully trained to grow as a tree. The only thing if at all, is there are several insect bites on the leaves so I had to trim some off, & the rest sprayed with mild antibacterial soap/water mixture.

I ate those nuts (fruit of Malabar Chestnut) on the most remote island Rapa in French Polynesia. One of the best tasting nuts I've ever tried. I will plant those trees now in Australia in my own backyard. Hopefully they will grow nicely.

Malabar chestnut will tolerate frost inland from bundaberg qld. We had a few cracker frosts this year and absolutely no damage. The tree is 10 feet tall and is flowering at this time.

I love this tree, related to the boabs it has a fat bum and gorgeous scented flowers that open at night.. The peeled raw seeds are a little like a cross between green peas and raw cashews, they are a little fiddly to get into but make a great snack.

I have 3 trees in my orchard, now 3 yrs old. have had 2 pods last year and now have 5 pods growing. they got frosted badly last year lost all leaves, but came back well in spring. I live in the western downs of Queensland, near chinchilla.
