Chilli - Birds Eye

$17.75 ($3.75-$17.75 choose a size)

The fruits are red, yellow, purple or black. Pungent, hot and spicy. The flowers are greenish white or yellowish white. Can be called the Thai Chilli as well. The plant can grow up to 2m tall however very easily stays small especially in pots. It's origins are from Mexico however it is most famous for being used in Vietnamese cooking in soups, stir fries and salads. Thai cuisine commonly uses this chilli and it is because it has a fruity taste and an extreme spiciness. Many of the Thai curries are centred around the flavour of the Birds Eye chilli and it has become so common in Thai cooking that it is often just called the Thai chilli. Because they go well in pots many people who couldn't grow these fruits outside in colder climates can keep them protected and enjoy them fresh rather than store bought.

Chilli - Rocoto Tree

Excellent yields. I have been supplying the neighbours over winter. Snails like climbing up the branches and ringbarking new shoots. Facing north against a wooden fence. Glove wearing when dicing is a good idea because there is plenty of juice

Chilli - Rocoto Tree

Grow from seeds took a year to fruit. Growing in a window box 5 trees and many fruits right through the winter in Melbourne. Very very hot and be careful when you are cutting them. I would suggest wearing gloves and then wash you hands vigorously.

Chilli - Rocoto Tree

These chilli seeds germinate readily. I have 4 growing, the oldest of which is nearly 5 years old. I have to prune it from time to time as it gets very "leggy". A lot of friends are really shocked at the heat these puppies impart. Great sauce!

Rocoto Tree Chilli

In Emerald Victoria the winter is typically long, cold and wet. However, 3 Rocotto all survived, one keeping its fruit through the entire winter. Tip; plants must be well established before planting.

Have had this plant, or its descendents, for quite a few years. The first one died back after fruiting well, and I'm not sure if it was just past its prime or if wet, dry, cold conditions damaged it, but fruit that fell off into it's pot self-seeded.

this lovely cold climate chilli from the andes in Peru is a real hot devil with large fruits the size of a small lime, the best time to harvest is from winter to spring through to the end of spring as the fruit will get mushy in hot weather

This cheerful shrub grows rapidly and responds to TLC but do not over-fertilise as with all capsicums / chilis. This produces all leaf and no fruit. The fruit is a good, medium hot, fleshy chili. Good for drying and powdering, or blending with vinegar,...
