Feijoa or Pineapple Guava
Feijoa sellowiana
Evergreen bushy small tree to 5m with pretty blossom and edible aromatic fruit.
FEATURES: Fruit around the size of an egg remain green when ripe. Their fruity aroma may account for the common name pineapple guava. Perfumed pale cream flesh is high in vitamin C. The flavour a blend of pineapple and strawberry. Attractive plant in flower.
CONDITIONS: Suited to fertile free draining soils in a sunny site. Drought tolerant.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Enrich soil and feed with rich compost and manure in a thick mulch. Add nitrogen rich fertiliser late Winter. Prune to a single trunk and to promote new fruiting wood close to the trunk each year. Provide ample water in hot weather. Collect fruit which falls from tree before ripe. Eat when slightly soft.
