Malabar Chestnut
Pachira aquatica
Tropical evergreen tree reaching 3-4m in height and bearing green pods of brown chestnut like seeds.
FEATURES: Large, white spiked flowers form a medium sized green pod containing rows of brown chestnut-like seeds which taste similar to peanuts. When roasted or fried the seeds have the flavour of chestnuts.
CONDITIONS: Prefers a well drained position in full sun and slightly acid soil.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Fertilise in Spring after fruiting. Avoid frosts when plant is young. Provide adequate water during Summer.
