Passiflora edulis Cultural Notes
Passionfruit grow well in warm, sunny sites preferring a north or north-easterly aspect. As passionfruit are fast growing and produce large numbers of fruit they need the support of a trellis or fence.
For best results:
Tolerant of most soil types, a well drained soil is preferred. This can be enriched by adding compost an'dlor manure as well as some complete fertiliser. Plant in moist soil and keep well watered until established. Water regularly during growing season. Protect from frosts when young.
Mulch annually with animal manure or compost, being careful to keep the stem area free.
Fertilise in July and January with complete fertiliser. Ammonium sulphate may also be beneficial in the warmer months of the first year.
Mature vines may need pruning annually. This will improve crop size. Control any pests and diseases as necessary.
