Native to Indonesia but widely grown worldwide as a backyard shrub for its aromatic leaves and rind that add a unique flavour to Thai cooking. Well suited to container growing. Also known as the Makrut Lime. The oil has strong insecticidal properties. Kaffir lime rind is an essential ingredient in a Thai curry paste, a teaspoons of Kaffir lime rind is used in both red and green Kaffir lime gives the curry a very distinctive flavour. The leaves are added to the curry once it is cooking and can also be added when cooking rice.

A recently imported Pummelo from Vietnam, where it is a very popular seedless variety. Pummelos are similar to grapefruits, but larger and much sweeter. Most adaptable citrus to tropical areas. Grows very well in subtropical climates too- like we have here at Daleys in Kyogle. Very large fruits!

Flavour is very sweet like brown-sugar with a slightly gritty texture like a pear, contains several shiny, black seeds. Very hardy, slow growing, subtropical fruit tree. Seedlings take longer to start fruiting and fruit size and quality will be variable. Seedling trees are much hardier and more adaptable to marginal climates. Trees can be forced into flowering by cincturing when large enough.

Cardamon ginger is a leafy ginger-like plant that grows in clumps and makes an excellent low screen, it adds a tropical feel to any garden. While the seeds don't resemble true cardamom, the leaves can be used in desserts, to add flavour when steaming rice, or used to wrap fish. Leaves are also delicious when infused to make spiced teas: infuse one cardamon leaf, two sticks of lemon grass and one chopped chilli for a winter warmer.
