Dwarf Persimmon - Fuyu (NA)

Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat, orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour. Great eaten crunchy but just luscious when left to go soft. Besides producing delicious fruit, Persimmons are highly ornamental with their beautiful autumn foliage. Non astringent, so can be eaten when still hard. When young, protect from hot afternoon sun, and when dormant, from wet conditions. Seedless when grown on their own. If cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh as shown in the display picture.

This heart shaped fruit has a medium thick skin, more seed than the Pinks Mammoth and produces high yields. Early and consistent bearing, presentable fruit and early maturing is what makes this the main commercial variety.The foliage is delicate on young trees, and our potted plants are known for their older leaves to turn yellow and drop during transport to conserve energy. Canistel

A slender and erect tree with cream coloured fragrant flowers. The fruit is round to oval and matures to a yellow-orange colour. The yellow flesh has a sweet earthy flavour and a meaty texture similar to a boiled egg. Seedling selection cropping in 4 years. Atzapotl is the Aztec name for the canistel. Atzamole is a dish which is like guacamole but with canistel.
