This attractive native shrub is known for the distinctive honey that is made from its nectar. It grows naturally all along the east coast and inland, from the south coast of New South Wales to Cape York, thriving in both sandstone derived and basalt derived soils. Profuse white blossom is seen from early Spring through to early Summer, and being a compact size it is a great addition to any garden, either on its own or as a hedge. The honey for which it is known, has similar properties to the more well known Manuka Honey (Leptospermum scoparium), whereby bacterial growth is inhibited by the topical application of honey to a wound.
