This particular Taro was developed for its yield of edible leaves and stems rather than its roots. The leaves and leaf stems are eaten as a cooked, green vegetable. This plant has a Weed Warning. Weed Warning: Tahitian Spinach is prone to producing a multitude of small bulbils that, if disturbed, can spread rapidly. It tends to be hard to clear out of an area because of the sheer numbers of these small bulbils. So it is best planted off in a corner or in a large pot, where it can be left undisturbed. The stems are widely used as a celery substitute in tropical areas. They provide protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium and vitamins A, B, and C. The leaves can be harvested all year round. No Taro should ever be eaten raw, due to the presence of harmful oxalates, which are eliminated with cooking.

The round knobbly fruit, usually reaching 3.5-4 cm in diameter have a distinctive and recognisably citrus flavour, with a similar globular texture to the more commonly known Finger Lime. Also known as Dooja or Gympie lime. Occurs naturally on the fringe of lowland sub-tropical rainforests of southeast Qld, from Brisbane northwards. This slender tree can reach up to 15m in height and 6-8m in diameter with multiple trunks, making it the most vigorous of the native citrus. The round lime is suitable for including in cordials, sauces, marmalades and lime flavouring. The skin is very thick (up to 7mm) and has potential for culinary use, such as grating into spice pastes, or for candied peel and may also have potential for essential oil extraction.

A tropical evergreen, clump-forming, spice and fruit bearing, giant ginger native to West Central Africa. Growing to 6m or more, the rhizomes are reddish-brown, 1.5 cm in diameter. The large, ridged bright red, fleshy fruit are produced at the base of the plant and contain a sweet edible pulp that is tangy and juicy. The seeds are used as a piquant spice, not unlike peppercorns. Grows best in a shaded position. Tolerant of seasonally dry conditions and a part sun position if needed.

Can be invasive even in a snmall pond so keep under control by dividing and sharing or eating.Mild celery flavor -also called Chinese celery and Water Parsley which it also resembles slightly in flavor.Chooks love it too.
