Kiwifruit Gold Seedling

$19.75

Seed selected from a very sweet yellow fruited variety. We have found these seedlings to flower within 3 years from seed and exhibit low chilling requirements They will not come true to type but may be worth experimenting with to see if you can come up with your own special selection. Remember they are dioecious and hence seedlings may be male or female, you will be able to tell if they are male or female after they flower. It can therefore be a good idea to purchase 3 to increase the likelihood of receiving at least one female. They also make an excellent rootstock for grafting kiwifruit varieties onto.

Kiwiberry - Red Female

$39.00 ($29.00-$39.00 choose a size)

The name Hardy Kiwifruit comes from the fact that this species can tolerate very low winter temperatures and at the same time doesn't require a lot of winter chill, so can be grown over a wide climatic range. Pollinates with a regular male kiwi fruit. Hardy kiwifruits are smaller than normal Kiwifruit, an inch or so long. Fruits are borne in clusters and have smooth, edible skins so can be eaten just like grapes. The hardy kiwifruit has the same emerald-green interior and similar flavor to the grocery store kiwifruit, except that hardy kiwifruits are sweeter.

Peanut Butter Tree

$34.95 ($19.75-$34.95 choose a size)

This attractive tree has clusters of yellow flowers that are followed by an abundance of dark red fruit to around 2.5cm long. The rich, sweet flesh has a texture similar to peanut butter. The fruit can be eaten fresh or made into milk shakes.

Pluot Plum - Black Adder

$49.00 ($49.00-$99.00 choose a size)

Graham Richards kindly gave us this low chill Pluot Plum to trial from his low chill breeding program. First fruiting this season, excellent flavour and texture. A Pluot is a cross between an Apricot and Plum- however more Plum characteristics are present. The Black Adder has Purplish- black skin with an amber flesh turning a deeper colour when very ripe. Pluots normally require cross pollination to set fruit. Try cross pollinating with another Pluot or a Japanese Plum variety- like a Mariposa. We are currently assesing its ability to self pollinate and will update our growing advice with those results. Ensure adequate sunlight, free draining fertile soil for maximum yields and healthy productive trees. Being low chill, it will produce fruit where winters are mild but may still not thrive in areas with hot summers. Protection may be beneficial.

Tapering trunk with a bulbous base. These high yielding precocious hybrid selections will grow outside of the tropics, in a warm and sheltered position. Worth trying in coastal locations as far south as Coffs Harbour. They will require free draining soil and are best planted deep with a deep organic mulch surrounding them. If you ever have to remove them, the heart is also edible and quite palatable.

Jaboticaba

$12.90 ($4.90-$69.00 choose a size)

The jaboticabas habit of producing the fruit directly on the trunk makes this a striking tree. Fruit is similar to a grape with a sweet and aromatic flavour. The new growth is a coppery colour along with their beautiful honey scented flowers makes it a very ornamental tree. Bears heavy crops of quality fruit that can be eaten fresh from the tree. Often fruiting up to 3 times per year. Time from flowering to fruit being ready to eat is only 30 days. More Information: California Rare Fruit Growers Association.
