Smaller, clumping type bamboo that can be pruned to 2m. Will hold lower foliage on new growth to create a screen for small spaces, giving a lush tropical feel to a garden. Great for growing in pots, too. Can grow to 3-4m high when left to grow and 1m wide, can be triangular in shape. Fine look with green culms to 2cm. Canes can be harvested for use in the garden. Plant 1m apart for hedging applications. Cold tolerant to -7C. The bamboo shoots on this variety are not considered edible as they are bitter even when prepared the proper way.

Cinnamon - Cassia

Grown for thousands of years in China for both culinary and medicinal purposes and the source of the preferred cinnamon spice in North America, the flavour is stronger and is suitable for both sweet and savoury dishes. Trees are coppiced every 2-3 years and the inner bark is harvested and rolled into quills. The flower buds are also used as a sweet flavouring. Cassia cinnamon is distinguished from true Cinnamon by the thickness of the harvested quills and by the scent of the leaves. Lemon - Meyer

The popular Meyer is not a true lemon but likely to be a natural hybrid between a lemon and an orange. The lower acidity and reduced sourness makes it one of the most widely grown home-garden varieties. Very hardy and prolific. The fruits are a deep orange-yellow colour with thin skin and they are very juicy, making them perfect for use in dressings and marinades. The meyer is low in pectin.

Vanilla Vine

The fermented pod of this climbing orchid is harvested from the Vanilla Vine or orchid, an aromatic sweet scents used to flavour cakes, and perfumes. Must be hand pollinated. The only insect capable of pollinating the blossom is the Melipona, a bee (see video) , native only to Mexico so all plants must be hand pollinated within 12 hours of the flower opening. The pods take nine month to develop.
