Ju starts with ...
Just wanted to thank "Fruitist" for supplying me with two specimens of this tree & cross my fingers that they will like growing in the red soil of Kingaroy Qld. I am so grateful and look forward to enjoying eating them in the future. You have done an amazing job with all your different type of exotic fruit trees in your garden, I've never seen the like and you even had the yerba mate tree. I haven't had that since living in Argentina... good for you.. Judy.

Hi Judy, good to have met you. Mamoncillo should grow very well in your red soil. They can handle light frost. But take care in their first year of Summer sun and Winter until they are established.
Did you eat the seeds before in S. America? I heard that they are edible after roasting? I should point out that seeds can choke children if they are not careful in sucking the pulp and end up slipping down their throats.
Please keep me posted with the trees progress.

Mamoncillo growing in 2 - what should I do?
One of the Mamoncillo seeds I planted has sprouted two stems. So I dug it up to see if it could be divided into two plants. However the stems are melded hard into the seed and can't be separated so it has been replanted as is.
This seedling is only half the size of the others with a single stem so I assume that is because the energy is being used to grow the two stems instead of one. Therefore should I remove one of the stems or just leave it as is and grow a tree with two trunks? Thanks your advice.

You will be struggling to grow them in Melbourne. They will be genetically identical so lopping one off to help the other would be ok. Seperate sexes mean growing more than one is the best option.I have 3 small bisex ones fron mexico and ones are rare.
