Acai Palm (forum)

I purchased an Acai Palm from you (May 2012). It has done nothing at all and I wonder if it is because I have it in a "swampy" area as it would be in its natural habitat. I am in Bundaberg Qld so I don't think the cold weather has any bearing. Thankyou for any help. Roy

You have reached the forum, not Daleys nursery. Though I dont garden in the tropics,I have grown Acai and I think I have the answer. Many plants can quite easily sit dormant for some months after planting. Plants starting from a seed in a swamp readily adapt. All nursery plants are started in perfect conditions and if you put it straight into swampy conditions it would take quite a while for it to adjust. You could dig some drainage around it to keep out excess swampiness and allow the plant to slowly adjust, which it probably will if all other factors are in balance.

They take a year or two to establish . I planted out 2 very advanced Para dwarf seedlings that did not thrive . One died , and the other was lifted up out of the ground on the rootball of the pioneer tree that was shading it when blown over by Yasi . It has since been replanted and is now shooting out suckers and growing well .
