Ants in Roots of Plumtree (forum)

Napo starts with ...
Hi,
I just recently planted an Italian Plum in my garden (mostly clay) and within 2 days an ant population moved in the nice black loosen top soil I filled the hole with. I tried a so called eco friendly ant repellant from Chemfree, but with just very limited effects. Does anybody have a solution for me? I'd rather not use RAID, as I want to eat the fruits (if there will be any)...
