Hello!
Recently i noticed some white thing *looks like ash* appearing on my new lemon seedlings and on the ground. Can someone tell me what it may be?
Thank you very much
Nikola

I agree with Virginny. You will need to treat - try not to get the leaves too wet when you water - unless they can dry off quickly. Maybe time to get them out of those plastic surrounds so the air can circulate better - it might be getting too humid in there.

usualy summers are hot like hell here close to the 40 degrees Celsius (100+ Fahrenheits) and no rain, but this summer looks like spring (and i personally like it this way). temperatures go not over 30 and it rains now and then. i haven't watered them for 2 weeks now and the soil looks OK. i wiped the white thing from the leaves and now they look clean and i don't see the white thing to form again. would that be enough or the plants still need some chemical treatment? For now they will stay in those bottles because even if i re-pot them the new pots will be plastic again so i don't see the point. terracotta pots are too expensive here. a nice 4 gallon terracotta is over 15 euros (which means i can buy 20 of them with my miserable payment. i don't consider the re-potting just please tell me if the wiping the white thing of the leaves is enough or i need to treat them with chemicals.
Thanks a lot for your answers (so far and those i hope yet to come) :=))) and regards from Macedonia
Nikola

Hi Nikomil how are you. Hows everything all the way in Macedonia?
I agree with everyone here, the white stuff in the soil is most likely some sort of fungi growing, its not a big deal usually as the ground is always teaming with fungi. this usually helps feed the trees as it decomposes everything in the soil.
But if its on the leaves then its not a good sign. this might be a silly question but those pots you have them in do they have holes in the bottom to let water drain, also take them out of the tubs. if the soil is too wet it will encourage fungi to grow and spread which could start growing on the seedlings.
Do this, and keep them outside in an area where they get plenty of air circulation and the fungi should go away. wiping it off will help too. if it doesnt then it might be a good idea to get a weak fungicide from a nursery.
Good luck
Steven
