This is a Haas avocado a bought from Diggers about 4 years ago. It got badly burnt last summer and we nearly lost it. Hence the shade cloth, which was only quickly put up a week ago with the arrival of some hot weather. Anyhow, it put on new leaves and survived winter but it hasn

Hate to say it LynL but the prognosis does not look good. Id say it has root-rot, and there is little chance of saving. Grafted avocados are very challenging to grow especially in melbourne - Id suggest replacing it with something easy to grow that better suits your climate. White sapote maybe if you want something exotic?

Bad news. That's not what I wanted to here. Had a strong cool change come though yesterday and lost all leave except for the new ones that had grown recently. Might try sum gypsum as a last ditch attempt. Anythings worth a try.

Hi Lynl,
Yep, gypsum is the way to go. To speed things up, try some liquid gypsum as well.

Yates make a product called 'Anti Rot', it's to stop root rot in citrus & avocados. Give that a go too.

A good fertilizer for avos is: 2 parts dynamic lifter plus (or equivalent), 1 part sulphate of potash, 1 part epsom salts,

I have a Hass that looked like it would cark it, dropped all it's leaves, and now it is covered in new growth.

Anyway, I decided it was root-rot and dug it up, slung it in a pot and left it in a corner. Put a nice new one in the re-worked soil, then turned around and the potted one is reborn.

Moral of the story, give it time.

Don't feel so bad now, after reading all the good advise.
I think this mental weather has quite a lot to do with it too.
I'll try that good fertilizer recipe. How often would you apply it?
Does Clay Breaker do the same job as Liquid gypsum?
