My Bacon avocardo tree has lost all its leaves. we treated for curn grubs and fertilised and they kept falling, now it only had buds and stems. Any suggestions, I just replanted into a pot. Steve

Hi, Should have read 'curl grubs'. Tree is about 8 to 12 months old, 12 to 14 inches tall, did not get frosteed or very very cold - typical Windsor/Sydney winter, it is protected from extreme weather with a fence and 5 ft trees either side, does get enough sun, is well drained and did not get too dry, was not over fertilised, ony gave fertiliser when leaves started to look limp. Is it flowering or sending out new shoots? Mostly likely root rot - an all too common problem with avocados.

Mine has also lost all it's leaves. It is in a protected position, potted in quality mix and a very mild winter here in the Mountains. I don't over water it and it is covered in flowers now. Is it going to die or will it come back.
My Hass on the other hand looks great.

My potted shepperd had the potting mix replaced and has now lost all of it's leaves and the external branches had died. However the main trunk is still green. Is it a lost cause or will my tree come back?

Hi baldrick,
I must say I've never heard of anyone growing a Shepard avocado in a pot! They are not a dwaft tree, like the Wurtz & Rincon, or a semi-dwaft like the Pinkerton, but I suppose if the the pot is huge, it'll work. Good luck.
Try giving your potted tree some gypsum & dolomite, that should help. (Go easy with it :-)
Can it be planted in the ground?
