Hello there in Cranbourne. Sorry to tell you but your picture is not Balsam of Peru, it is something else. Myroxylon balsamum is a very special medicinal plant and below is my plant which you can see is nothing like the one you are showing.

You only have to look in Google images of Balsam of Peru and you will see that your plant is completely different. Could you please clarify if you are looking for the plant shown in your picture or are you searching for the true Balsam of Peru. Thank you and have a nice day.

Yes there are a few online sites showing this plant with the french spelling Baume du Pérou which translates directly as Balsam of Peru. However that name is a misnomer for this plant so it’s better to use the actual species name as sometimes there are several species that are described with the same common name. It seems like the plant you are looking for in your picture has a number of common names, but it might be one called Cuban Oregano which is Plectranthus amboinicus. Hope this helps.
