Bamboo for windbreak (forum)

I just discovered that bamboo might be the ideal windbreak for us (the clumping form. It seems to grow incredibly fast, you get garden stakes, vegetable and apparently you can feed it to lifestock too. In "bamboo rediscovered" they tell you that it grows happily amongst gum trees and in shade.
Seems too good to be true.

I've ordered seven plants from Greenpatch.
Hopefully they will grow quickly.

Some grow faster than other; I presume you discussed it with Greenpatch regarding your requirements. I have some black bamboo that I exchange with friends now and then. They are runners though and need to be contained, but their beauty surpasses all.

I'm very excited about these bamboos, even it might look a bit weird up here in the mountains.

Bamboo is not for the faint hearted; Sydney people usually recoil in horror if you tell them you have bamboo in your garden. :)
