Banana identity (forum)

Hello,
Can anyone identify this Banana for me? It was grown from seed by a hobby gardener who tells me it's ornamental. However the only ornamentals I can find are Abyssinians and mine don't have any red on them.
The seeds are rather large and black, which he got from his own banana tree that he had had in a pot for 12 years.
Any help would be appreciated!!

Looks a lot like an Abyssinian to me. The colour will come with age and maybe more light.

Hi Lijnat,
If you ever come across some more seeds I might be up for a trade?
Will that nana above grow much taller or does it stay stocky and bushy like that? It looks very tropical and lush.
Can you eat the bananas from it or are they too seedy?

Thanks John. I'm pretty sure it isn't an Abyssinian. I have an Ab and it has always had the red trunk and veins.

Hi Al,
I can get hundreds of the bananas in the photo (not seeds). They will keep growing upward and get very tall. No fruit according to the grower. The grower is a hobby Gardner and doesn't know what it is either. He grows the fruiting type as well.

Musa Vel is a good ornamental, I have a few around my pond. If only all bananas were as tough and grew as fast.
