Berry ID- Is it edible? (forum)

Caledapho starts with ...
I moved house a few months ago, and this shrub is in my new garden. The newly rippening berries looked and smelled familiar to me, so I tried a ripe one about an hour ago. It tasted sweet with a pair-like texture. It has a slightly tarty after-taste, but not unpleasant. But it left a slighly numbing sensation in my mouth and lips!?
Obviously Im not poisoned yet, but the numbing worried me a bit, with my dog in the same yard. If she gulps down a heap of them she might get a big reaction??
Can you please help me identify it? And any further info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Mine have been ripening up about now as well. Let them go just softish before picking, they'll be at their sweetest.

It is cherry guava and is edible. The fruit flies like them too and I always protect them in draw-string home made bags if I want to eat them.
