Best Astringent Persimmon (forum)

Hi,
I would like to plant some astringent persimmons this winter and is researching for the best varieties to grow in Adelaide.
Varieties I can get include Dai Dai Maru, Hachiya, Nightingale, Tanenashi and Hyakumo.
The more info I read on the net, the more confused I got, eg some say Hachiya and Nightingale are the same, some say Dai Dai Maru is the largest variety whilst some sai it is small to medium, etc.
Any helpful comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Before I bought my Nightingale tree I read a few things about it being one of the best so that's the one I got. It's really close to being ripe. I'm trying to keep it on the tree until it's soft but they have already been orange for a long time, The fruit are about 8cm wide at the moment

I have a massive astringent persimmon tree in my yard. Unfortunately no idea what variety, I am guessing it's about 30 years old and was already big when I moved in 9m years ago..
This year it produced around 120kg and I still can't get rid of em all lol

ah ok, thanks for the comments on the variety, much appreciated
I don't often eat them, but have found some seeds in them.
They seem hugely popular with middle eastern and asian people though.

LOL
That's only a small part of it.
This is a pic of the whole tree last year after I pruned it quite heavily the previous year.

Dave,
Your persimmon tree alone would fit half my backyard! If you are after someone to give away the fruit, I'd be glad to take it. I am a great fan of astringent persimmons. Unfortunately can't get them from shops any more.
Thanks

Dave,
Hard to find the fruits commercially, this rare astringent fruits you have will give you lots of money if you sell them in the Sunday market.

The soil is fairly heavy clay, and I haven't ever fed the tree before. Not sure what I should use to do that?
I have been able to sell some cheap on Gumtree classifieds, but don't know what markets would work for selling this one fruit. They certainly are very popular with Lebanese and Asian people :)

Gee i wonder if it's roots have found a septic drain or such. I am struggling with my Fuyu Dave - someone else may be able to help - but it seems to be very happy just the way it is...?
Lucky you :) do u like them yourself?

I sure do, they are really scrumptious once they are ripe and soft!
But no way could I eat 100kg of them lol
Luckily there are a lot of people who like them too, I have sold quite a few now at $2/kg (compared to 1.50 each in shops).
It will recompense me for the week I spend sweeping up the leaves soon, and another week of pruning the top of the tree to minimise out of reach fruit.
EDIT: Thank you kert, you were quite right. It is a Flat Seedless tree

This appears to be a Fuyu variety. it is non astringent variety, can be eaten hard, but better after leaves fall off the tree. stays fresh even 1 month after defoliage.
