Cha-Plu Leaves in Brisbane (Miang-Kam) (forum)

Reg starts with ...
Can someone PLEASE help me. I ADORE Miang-kam, but cannot find any cha-plu leaves anywhere in Brisbane. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks everyone. Tried Inala but no luck. Would like the leaves but happy to buy a plant also... I wouldn't cook with them but use them raw. Can someone tell me if they really are betel leaves as I have heard 2 different stories there. Apparently not betel in the true sense of the word? Thanks again for the replies, please keep them coming.

I dont believe it is the real betel leaf. Wild or false betel leaf. I may have some in my garden now that has just started running.

These sound delicious - you have got me interested now! But I wouldn't have a hope of growing it in Roleystone - too hot and dry in summer, too cold in winter.

It seems there can be confusion about the name. The pepper leaf used in Miang Kam is bai cha plu. Betel leaf is bai plu. Just check carefully if you are buying this plant.

Hi BJ - while searching for a source of cha plu leaves in Brisbane, I found your emails - any chance that I could get a runner (or even a couple of leaves) from your betel leaf plant for propagating? It certainly appears to be piper sarmentosum, which is cha plu in Thai cuisine.

I'm at Carina, and it would be no trouble for me to get to Keperra.
