Chili Flowers (forum)

14 responses

Organum starts with ...
After a chilly winter losing all my capsicum bushes to fierce colds.
My 2 year old chili bushes (Both organic & pest free)boomed back with fresh new growth after a heavy pruning in August, having been well tipped of flower buds forming for most of spring letting the bush form up and almost triple in size.
Finally i've let it begin to form its beautiful flowers and soon the chillies.

So happy for you, Organum. Yes, I also find that chilli bushes love being cut back harsh (by half, here) after fruiting; it seems to improve longevity.

Thanks for giving me your time to have a read and look :) I'll be expanding my chili varieties this season adding Scotch Bonnets and Mini-Capsicum chillies sourced from 9 year stock organic/disease free! Very exciting time in the garden despite the heat!
What kind of chili/chillies are you cultivating???

I have all sorts, Organum. From tiny birds eyes and red bombs to big fat rocotto. They are so obliging that I find them great morale boosters!

I am interested to hear that you are growing mini-caps as I have some seedlings that came from another forum member (thanks, Lucy). Do let us know how yours grow.

I am also growing mini-capsicum from seeds kindly sent to me by jujubeforsale. They are just starting to ripen and this hasn't gone unnoticed by some local caterpillars. One good thing about the minis is that any losses are small in percentage of the whole crop. Another good thing is that with small caps I don't have to put unused portions back in the fridge. I have now bought some more mini seeds and am patiently waiting for them to germinate.

Xiem why did you buy more seeds when you can use the seeds from your crop? Are you growing a different variety?

They were a little different MaryT - "Patio" sweet minis red/yellow mixed so I thought I'd give them a try. I think jujube's seeds had four colours. I will still use the seeds from the first crop but I haven't picked any yet. And besides, I lied in my last post. I am not patient at all. :)

Xiem, jujube sent me some 'red' and some 'purple' but only the reds came out. So far they are still tiny so I'm not sure when I'll see fruit. I've also sprouted some seeds from a small bought capsicum; they're vigourous so may even overtake the mini. I'm not too patient either, but luckily there are other things growing (at the moment the figs are productive).

Hi Mike,

I hope you are well, not too busy with work.

I originally planed to go that way then changed my mind last minutes due to too many things to sort out before going home, may be in February when I got the chance.

Thank you very much for saving me some seedlings Mike. I am very much appreciated. If we go your way, it will be end of Feb or early March when the weather is permitted. It is hard to tell now.

Good luck to the fishing. I hope you have a good catch and good time.
