Bought these from Woolworths a couple of months ago. I suspect they were dapple dandy pluots from the mottled peel and also because in America dd pluots are marketed as dinosaur eggs. But I can't be sure.

The only pluot variety I have ever seen sold in a nursery is Flavour Supreme, which is the last one that should have been released in Australia because it needs 800 hours of chill. Still waiting for Dapple Dandy and Flavour King...

I doubt it. Dapple dandy matures mid Feb.
The other dapple X's, are not late maturing nor grown in great numbers.
The latest pluot grown in Australia commercially is Flavorfall.
Flavour Supreme is probably one of the best pluots based on flavor. It's downside is it's a shy cropper. Chill hours are no problem in most stonefruit districts. Unfortunately, Dural is too mild in winter.

Well I am after Flavor King or Flavorosa.

Yes chill hours are a problem in my area although it doesn't stop Bunnings all over Sydney from selling Flavor Supreme even though I can not see how that would fruit.

Both PBR and under licence. So you will have to wait until patent expires, and even then it may not be available readily.
Flavor King is similar to Supreme in chill hours. Flavorosa is genuine low chill (400), but poor commercial performer.

Pluots were bred in 1989 so why are there still patent restrictions? How come Flavor Supreme is available?

A lot of nurseries online say Flavor King requires only 400-500 chill hours.

I have just stumbled upon Graham's FacTree which appears to be a great resource.

Indeed the figure they give for Flavor King is 800, although I believe they have just confused it with Supreme. They also put Santa Rosa at 600- I don't know why they have inflated everything for Australia.
I think the Yanks have got it right at 400 for Flavor King.

Much of that info is quite old. Pluots have by and large not performed commercially in Australia, nor have been accepted by the marketplace with the same fervor as in the US. Australians, I think by and large prefer more balance of acidity and sugar, than just high brix.
Most in that list have been removed by growers.
There are only 5 that I know that are grown in any commercial quantity. They are, DDandy, Flavor Rich, Grenade, Heart and Flavorfall and they all have issues that make standard plums a better choice for most growers.

The Dapple Dandys are back again. Picked way too early.
It's inherent flaws: colours well before it's ripe and the fruit goes soft before maturity.
Hence picked early, firm with zero flavour.
