CURRY TREE Growth rate (forum)

2 responses

I am considering to plant a curry tree (Murraya koenigii) in Sydney because I like its taste in cooking.
I have two questions:
1/ What growth rate can I expect (in Sydney). Especially how many years to go from a tiny plant to 2m tall.
2/ Does this tree or its flowers have a strong smell when growing in the garden? (Of course I know it smells when you cut it, I just want to check that the tree isn't permanently malodourous)
Thanks for all replies. Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave, it will take about 3 years approx to reach 2m depending on conditions. The foliage is very aromatic when cut or scrunched, but not pungent if left to be. Remove all flowers to prevent the fruit forming as it is potentially weedy and will seed readily.

Thanks for that info. 2m in 3 years is fast enough to fill up the space I've got, so I'll plant one.
Leaves taste great in cooking. Hopefully the one I plant will too.
Cheers,
Dave
