Damaged pecan (forum)

Some cattle got into our house yard and rubbed on my pecan and managed to split it. I have taped it with electrical tape and also supported it further up. The tree is about 8 feet tall and I think the variety is Mohawk. What can I paint on the split to protect it from disease? I have access to stockholm tar which is a wound dressing for cattle or an acrylic based paint.

Hi Gigi, try a product called Tree Stac. You may want to remove the tape and cover the wound with Tree Stac as well.

The product I use for tree injuries and on pruning cuts is Steri-prune in an aerosol can from Bunnings. One can lasts a long time and it is just bitumen in a hydrocarbon solvent.
