Daun Salam leaves (forum)

I have recently discovered the lovely shady tree in my back garden was, in fact, a Syzygium polyanthum, or Indonesian Bay Tree. Indonesian friends, who call it Daun Salam, have since instructed me on its use in Indo-Malay cooking, which I have tried and can highly recommend. Since then I had been busy air-drying the leaves, ready to contact and sell to suitable eateries, until COVID-19 came and put the kybosh on eating out! So until things pick up again, is anyone interested in buying from me? I'm not sure if supplying an email address in the Forum is ok, maybe someone could tell me. Also I've been attempting to propagate the tree by cuttings. Not easy in Brisbane's variable climate. Some new shoots are showing but I may have trouble keeping them going over winter. We'll see. Meanwhile feel free to respond and we'll take it from there. Stay well!

Hi jakfruit etiquette,
I know that they produce flowers followed by seed pods, but as my tree is close to the neighbour's fence line, I keep it to a low level so it doesn't get a chance to produce seeds, unfortunately. I currently have cuttings that are living - some better than others - and I have to see if I can get them to survive the winter!
I can get a better picture instead of this late afternoon one tomorrow, so stay tuned to this forum...

Here's a better picture of the cuttings. I currently keep clear plastic cups over them, with a small hole in the top, to preserve the humidity, but I took them off so you can see how viable, but delicate, they are. I suppose there may be a good half dozen still okay. Fingers and everything else crossed that they will keep growing!!
