Hi Collectomaniac81
I couldn't perceive any reason why you can't grow D. Plum in a large container. Just upgrade the container every few years commensurate to the growth of the plant. But, eventually it will be too heavy and cumbersome to transplant as the pot becomes larger. You can always top and root prune when it comes to that point.
Happy gardening :-)

I think all three species could be successfully grown in a container, but I think D. jerseyana is best suited.
D. puriens is a much larger tree, and D. johnsonii has a broader canopy and isn't cauliflory. Additionally, in my experience these two are more likely to form suckers.
Hope this helps,
Pademelon1

Yes I agree, D.jerseyana will fruit lower on a multi stem shrub, containers are fine.

Fruits on small baby Pruriens tree are still green. I would like to enquire how long they will take to ripen and if there is any way to tell when they are ready for picking. Aren't they supposed to turn purple and how long will that take roughly? Thank you.
