I haven't tried Derris dust but Dipel works great for caterpillar infestations. I've saved all this year's cruciferous vegies from attack and the grapevine has never looked better. Being a naturally occuring bacteria it's safe to use and ecomonical, a little goes a long way.

It's got some good info in it. Beware though - they used to say Dieldrin (spelling?) was ok in the "old days" too....my Dad used to put it all over the lawns to kill the ants nests...then, of course, we would walk all over it etc.. :(
Not saying it's no ok - but it's not completely safe either.
