I have a Dianella caerulea - Blue flax-lily plant in a 12 inch pot. It has 15 spikes (?). Can I divide the plant, say into 15 separate plants?

You can certainly divide your dianella up. I'm assuming that the spikes are this seasons and therefore the plant is in a growth cycle. Theoretically you could divide it into 15 plants but in practice you will get plants that have a better chance of recovering quickly if you have bigger divisions, say 8-10 plants or less.

That's how i propagated mine.
i now have quite a few of them in my garden. the biggest clump would be about 1m across. don't think i've ever watered them!
The berries i don't really like. they have a very strange taste IMO.
don't know how to describe it to those who have not tasted it. But that colour is psychedelic.
the roots of the plant are supposed to be edible too.
