Hi,
I bought a dward avocado from Daley's at the end of2019. The top part never grew but leaves are sprouting at the bottom. Is this the avocado tree growing? If not, what is growing?
Thanks in advance for your response.

If its a grafted tree, it looks like the graft has died and the rootstock is sprouting.

Thanks for responding. I'm a novice. Now that the grafted Avocado tree has died and the rootstock is sprouting, is the roostock avocado? If not, what is it and should I remove the tree?

Yes the rootstock is an Avocado. One of the main reasons for grafting Avocados is that seedlings can take many years to fruit, and also fruit from seedlings may not be exactly the same as the great fruit from the original tree. Also the rootstock you are now growing is more than likely not the same as the type you wanted to grow. You could re graft the plant you have, but either way for a novice that can be complicated, and the small plant in the pic still has a way to go.
Also you are in southern Victoria, so your rootstock tree isnt going to grow to maturity as fast as in Nth NSW or Nth QLD, where seedling can fruit fairly fast.
I would contact Daleys to find out what type the rootstock is, if it doesnt say on the label. I would probably get another new tree, and start again.
You might be able to pot up the rootstock for future use or someone else.
